Is 2001: A Space Odyssey About Freemasonry?

Masonic riddle? How, it is asked, can a square be oblong?
The Lodge symbolically is an
oblong square
in this sense.
I was reading this passage this morning -
"This has long been a puzzle word in Masonic nomenclature.

How, it is asked, can a square be oblong, when a square is equal on all its sides?
The answer is that in this connection “square” is used in the sense of rectangle; the angles are squared, not the sides.
Oblong is derived from ob, near, or before, and longus, long; that is, it means something approximately long, so that the main axis is much longer than the others, as a slender leaf, a shaft, etc.
An “oblong square is a rectangle of which two opposite sides are much longer than the other two.
The Lodge symbolically is an oblong square in this sense."
http://www.masonicdictionary.com/oblong.html
"A parallelogram, or four-sided figure, all of whose angles are equal, but two of whose sides are longer than the others.

Of course the term oblong square is strictly without any meaning, but it is used to denote two squares joined together to form a rectangle."
"Brother C. C. Hunt (Builder, volume ii, page 128), says it is the survival of a term once common but now obsolete; that at one time the word square meant right-angled, and the term a square referred to a four sided figure, having four right angles, without regard to the proportionate length of adjacent sides.

There were thus two classes of squares; those having all four sides equal, and those having two parallel sides longer than the other two.
The first class was called perfect squares and the second class ob1t squares."
This is the symbolic form of a Masonic Lodge, and it finds its prototype in many of the structures of our ancient Brethren.

The Ark of Noah, the Camp of the Israelites, the Ark of the Covenant, the Tabernacle, and, lastly, the Temple of Solomon, were all oblong squares."
and I couldn't help thinking that apart from
the Monolith being a black cinema screen, could it also be the
Holy of Hollies, or at least represent the Lodge in
the oblong sense of the word as in the above passage?
Oblong is used to denote two squares
joined together
to form a rectangle
Does that FLOODlight remind you of 12 tribes from the earth?
12 tribes
Does that look like a floodlight on that guy's chest, or what?
Bowman becoming a Master Mason?
Kubrick seems to be aiming his films at the
Scottish Rite, more than the Blue Lodge.
Two squares that make one rectangle?
Black and white?
Looks a bit like the final room in 2001, style wise, no?
Skull and Bones?
First Lodge meeting?
A Republican (red) and a Democrat (blue)?
Maybe they take turns on the throne
?
-)
Where have I seen that double-headed bird before?-)
The book suggests that the monolith awakened intelligence, and allowed man to advance from ape-men to a higher type of being.
It was an instrument placed on earth by aliens, to help man accelerate in his evolution toward eventually becoming higher beings.
Dave Bowman is transported through space, to the end of the galaxy, by the monolith (Lodge? Oblong square?), which also acts as a kind of star gate.
Here the aliens have created a hotel like environment (Lodge?) to make David feel at home.
He goes to sleep and his mind and memories are drained.
The aliens then transform him into an immortal being
(Master Mason?), a "star child", who can travel through space.
This sequence represents his evolutionary transformation and his rebirth into the next and higher level of existence.
Bowman eventually returns to earth (Jacob's Ladder?)
(book version) and destroys all the nuclear weapons and becomes a kind of master/protector of the earth.
This was the goal of the aliens all along, to make sure we didn't destroy ourselves and to preserve us, until we were able to evolve into higher, more peaceful beings.
Many of the early space programs rocket scientists learned their craft during WWII, making rockets for Hitler's army
The U.S. and Russian military both dreamed of
building missile bases on the moon, in order to establish
military dominance back on earth.
So, the space race of the 1960s, is seen by the author as a
product of war.
The All Seeing Eye?
Room 237/The Shining?
Notice Bowman's Room 237 moment when he sees himself as an old man in the mirror, after landing his All-Seeing Eye in the
Grand Lodge of the universe
And why all of those chairs positioned around the
one eyed space craft like the chairs positioned in a Masonic Lodge?
Those chairs look a bit like chairs arranged
Lodge style around the squares.
Eye ball?
The Blue Lodge?
Coffin/Resurrection?
Skull and Bones?
Notice also that Bowman is wearing a red spacesuit in the end of the film?

If it was a cloak he was wearing and he was in the movie
Eyes Wide Shut I wonder what we could name him?-)
The Scottish Rite is not part of the Blue Lodge,
but is made up of
Master Masons
.
The fallen angel story I'm talking about, not the myth of Satan.
The Light-bearer on 9/11, 2001?
The Monolith that was next to the
Twin Towers, but survived the fall?
Before the Twins were completed in the 70's.
The White Lodge/Pearly Gates/Solomon's Temple?
When the Twins were destroyed in 2001?
Millennium (Hilton) Monolith
Now, I don't believe in an Illuminati organization as such, but I can see a power play game going on between certain factions within, and between certain secret societies and institutions and the following clip I think does make a good point about people at the top of the world pyramid.
I don't say that entertainer's like MJ are in on things, but it does seem they have been exploited by some unscrupulous individuals who may not even be connected to any so called Illuminati organizations.
Take a look at the weird flying saucer like Masonic monument in Sydney, Australia in the clip above.
Maybe the Masons did have a connection (or, at least thought they had a connection) to aliens some time in the past, or even may still have one perhaps?-)
Darkness represents ignorance in Freemasonry,
this is why the movie starts like this.
And end's with the Master Mason
being raised in a room full of light?
"In Freemasonry, even as in the system of Jewish and Christian religion, darkness is a symbol of ignorance; while light is a symbol of enlightenment and knowledge.

It is a principle of Freemasonry that the natural eye can not perceive of the mysteries of the Order until the heart has embraced the deep spiritual and mystic meanings of those sublime mysteries.
Hence all applicants for the Degrees of Freemasonry are required to enter the Lodge in total darkness, this darkness is preparatory and preliminary to his receiving the light he desires and searches.

Genesis 1:1-3
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
The Scottish Rite is the Illuminati faction of Freemasonry?
(i.e the Roman Catholic Church)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freemasonry
"The Scottish Rite is one of the appendant bodies of Freemasonry that a Master Mason may join for further exposure to the principles of Freemasonry.
In England and some other countries, while the Scottish Rite is not accorded official recognition by the Grand Lodge, there is no prohibition against a Freemason electing to join it."
So, Kubrick was tipping off viewers of Eyes Wide Shut that the corrupt side of Freemasonry is The Scottish Rite and that it has probably been infiltrated by the Roman Church who are the so called Illuminati.
So, we have the Blue Lodge (the Knight's Templars, Protestants)
VS
The Scottish Rite (who are really of French origin anyway)
(The Roman Catholic Church/Illuminati)
Frater X - Hour 1 -
The
Secret War Inside Freemasonry
Actually, it's funny that I came to the same conclusion as Frater X in the interview above after reading the book
Masonic Words and Phrases by Michael R.Poll.

Masonic Words and Phrases

So, maybe this does mean a storm is coming after all, between the Blue and the Red Lodges?
Also remember that red and blue make purple. Rome?-)
"Purple was the color worn by Roman Emperors and magistrates,
and later by Roman Catholic bishops
Since that time, purple has been commonly associated with royalty and piety.

  1. Very interesting post. Years ago before I knew anything about Masons I was doing a meditation where I was told to picture a house and the inside. I always pictured a black and white squared hallway, similar to your 2nd photo. I do have an interest in Freemasonry but have never wanted to actually get involved.

As for a Masonic / alien link I'm beginning to think we all have such links - it's maybe what all of those gods are about in ancient teachings and legends.
